Critical Reception

What critics are saying

Score 78 /100

Critical reception for Will Trent has been largely positive, with critics welcoming it as an above-average broadcast procedural that elevates familiar genre formulas. Much of the praise centers on Ramón Rodríguez's lead performance, with reviewers finding his portrayal of the idiosyncratic, dyslexic Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent to be empathetic, charming, and deeply engaging.

Reviewers also appreciate the series' focus on emotional weight and character-driven storytelling, noting that it brings humanity and distinct representation to network television. While some critics caution that the series occasionally suffers from typical network constraints and pacing stumbles, the consensus views it as a solid, thoroughly watchable crime drama.

“quickly emerges as an above-average broadcast TV procedural”

“a breezy journey through the life of a very watchable investigator”

Why fans love it

Will Trent blends police procedural beats with a sharp comedic edge. The tone relies heavily on the protagonist’s dry sarcasm, offering a personality that feels distinct from the usual stoic detective archetype. It grounds its investigations in Georgia, capturing a specific local atmosphere often missing from standard crime dramas.

The series finds a unique rhythm through a balance of heavy themes and moments of levity, particularly regarding the special agent’s constant companion, a chihuahua. Ramón Rodríguez anchors the show as a pariah navigating complex professional dynamics while reconciling his own history. It functions as a character study disguised as an investigation show, focusing on one man’s approach to high-stakes cases through a fractured personal lens.
