Critical Reception

What critics are saying

Score 78 /100

Critics generally received The Resurrected as a bold, dark, and compelling twist on the traditional revenge thriller. While the series uses a supernatural resurrection premise as its setup, reviewers noted that the narrative quickly settles into a deeply human cat-and-mouse drama grounded in grief, anger, and loss.

The show's performances earned consistent praise, particularly Fu Meng-po's chilling turn as the revived villain alongside compelling work from stars Shu Qi, Sinje Lee, and Alyssa Chia. Although some critics pointed out occasional pacing issues and narrative bulk, most agreed that the nine-episode Taiwanese drama delivers an intense and haunting story worth watching through to the end.

“A unique, twisted take on the revenge drama”

“provides a grounded, well-paced story of grief and anger in the face of injustice, with a spiritual twist that ups the ante”

“wholly embraces the revenge thriller genre, crafting a fascinating cat-and-mouse game”

“The Resurrected features amazing performances, but I can’t claim I was familiar with the actors.”

Why fans love it

Most revenge stories settle for straightforward payback, but The Resurrected complicates the formula from the jump. Centered on two grieving mothers driven to extreme measures, the 2025 mystery drama follows their decision to bring back a scam ringleader to answer for what happened to their daughters. It is a dark, deliberate premise that hinges on loss curdling into cold resolve, with Shu Qi helping anchor the volatile emotional stakes.

What pulls audiences in is how quickly the pursuit of vengeance unravels. Rather than delivering clean catharsis, the narrative forces buried, painful truths into the open, ensuring that justice stays stubbornly out of reach. The series leans hard into its crime and thriller roots, trading easy moral victories for an uneasy, twisting exploration of how far grief can push someone before the collateral damage catches up.
