Critical Reception

What critics are saying

Score 85 /100

Critics generally praised The Legend of Korra as a bold and visually striking sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender. Reviewers consistently commended the show's artistic ambition, with technical praise centered on its fluid animation, detailed aesthetic, and compelling fusion of industrialized modernization with elemental bending. The series was also lauded for tackling mature ideological conflicts and expanding the lore of its fictional universe in meaningful ways.

While the series garnered widespread acclaim, certain narrative choices drew mild critiques. Reviewers occasionally took issue with diffused pacing and melodramatic romantic subplots, specifically pointing to love triangles and relationship drama as distracting elements. Nevertheless, critics found Korra to be a nuanced and compelling protagonist, concluding that the sequel succeeded in delivering a rich, action-packed, and satisfying experience in its own right.

“this show may be the most beautifully rendered animated series airing today”

“rich in storytelling, mysticism, and positive themes”

“Sequels rarely even come close to matching their predecessors, but even if they don’t, they can still be satisfying experiences in their own right.”
