Overview

Anos Voldigord was a tyrannical Demon King that eradicated humans, spirits, and even the gods, but became bored of eternal warfare and reincarnated with dreams of a peaceful world. However, what awaited him in reincarnation after 2000 years were descendants who became too weak after being accustomed to peace, and all sorts of magic that deteriorated to the extreme. Anos enters Demon King Academy that gathers and educates those who are viewed as the reincarnation of the Demon King, but the academy could not see through his true powers and ends up branding him as a misfit.

Critical Reception

What critics are saying

Score 72 /100

The Misfit of Demon King Academy generated mostly positive impressions among anime reviewers, who praised the series for exceeding expectations set by its genre tropes. Enthusiasts highlighted the show's charismatic lead character, eccentric fantasy world, and satisfying magical combat, noting that the overarching narrative explores surprisingly interesting themes surrounding postwar recovery and historical legacy.

At the same time, the show faced criticism from reviewers who found it overly conventional. Some early assessments pointed out that the series leans heavily into standard light novel formulas, arguing that the supporting cast and setup lack sufficient distinctiveness to stand out despite the capable animation and production quality.

“If you want to watch a fantasy anime with an eccentric world, fun powers, and a charismatic protagonist, you should check this one out.”

“The Misfit of Demon King Academy is definitely a great show.”

“The narrative itself falls into the realm of standard light novel fare. In essence, despite some quality production, there isn’t much to warrant continued viewing...”
