Overview

One fateful day, all of humanity was petrified by a blinding flash of light. After several millennia, high schooler Taiju awakens and finds himself lost in a world of statues. However, he’s not alone! His science-loving friend Senku’s been up and running for a few months and he's got a grand plan in mind—to kickstart civilization with the power of science!

Why fans love it

Most post-apocalyptic stories focus on the grit of survival, but this series treats the collapse of civilization as a massive structural engineering project. The focus is entirely on the practical application of chemistry and physics to rebuild a functioning society from scratch, turning the genre trope of the lone scavenger into a blueprint for mass production. It finds a strange, persistent humor in watching characters attempt to reinvent the lightbulb or the telephone using only natural resources and sheer stubbornness.

The dynamic between the cast, led by Yusuke Kobayashi, emphasizes the clash between raw human instinct and the calculated risk of scientific advancement. Even when the stakes transition from simple survival to outright war, the series keeps its obsession with the technical details of innovation front and center. By prioritizing crafting over combat, it carves out a rare space in the action genre where the most powerful weapon is a well-mixed batch of gunpowder or a steady supply of antibiotics.
