Series Brief

Overview

In any given year, more than 600,000 people are reported missing in the U.S. Of these reported cases, more than half of the missing people are people of color, too easily neglected by the system. Gabi Mosely, a former missing person herself, now specializes in PR and leads a crisis management team that seeks out these missing people. But unbeknownst to anyone, Mosely is hiding a dark secret of her own.

Critical Reception

What critics are saying

Score 70 /100

Found received a generally positive reception from critics, who commended its high-stakes drama and focus on underrepresented missing persons cases. Outlets like Variety and Refinery29 praised the series as a dark, intense, and highly bingeable procedural, pointing to Shanola Hampton's commanding lead performance as a standout strength that anchors the show's emotional core.

Reviewers from The A.V. Club noted that the show's central twists help elevate it beyond standard case-of-the-week fare into a compelling exploration of trauma and recovery. Critics also appreciated creator Nkechi Okoro Carroll's ability to balance character-driven storylines with fast-paced crisis management, while shining a light on real-world advocacy efforts.

However, some reviewers felt the execution occasionally faltered under typical network TV tropes. Critics from The Hollywood Reporter, The Wrap, and Common Sense Media noted that subtext-free dialogue, heavy exposition, and far-fetched plotlines sometimes caused the series to succumb to melodramatic silliness rather than maintaining its grounded premise.

“Extremely binge-able with an incredibly strong Hampton leading the charge as an Olivia Pope for the missing”

“Found is dark and stressful, but it perfectly captures the intensity of missing persons cases”

“Found review: A juicy twist elevates NBC's new procedural”

Where to Watch

Why fans love it

The 2023 crime drama Found addresses the reality that thousands of missing persons cases in the United States involve people of color who are frequently overlooked by traditional authorities. Shanola Hampton stars as Gabi Mosely, a figure who flips the standard police procedural dynamic by utilizing a crisis management firm to locate those bypassed by the system.

Instead of relying solely on badge-carrying detectives, the series focuses on a team defined by its assertive methods. Mosely remains a complicated protagonist who operates within a moral gray area. While her professional life centers on recovery and advocacy, her private life is anchored by a persistent, dark secret that forces her to balance a public mission with a hidden, personal history.
