HIGH CARD
Overview
Fourland Kingdom is an island nation in the North Atlantic. In this country, there are 52 X-Playing Cards, considered the origin of playing cards. A card with a unique supernatural ability can gift its abilities to a qualified person: the player. One day, the X-Playing Cards in government's custody were spread all over Fourland leading to troubles caused by the supernatural abilities of the players with cards across the country. The king secretly assigns Pinochle, one of the top corporations of the nation, to a mission, to collect the cards that are causing all the chaos in the country.
High Card turns the concept of a deck of cards into a source of mayhem across the Fourland Kingdom. When 52 mystical objects escape government protection, individuals gain volatile powers that disrupt the natural order. The narrative follows covert agents from the Pinochle corporation tasked with hunting down these scattered cards to stabilize the nation.
Beyond the high-stakes recovery missions, the series focuses on the interpersonal dynamics of the agents. The core of the drama relies on the chemistry between the characters, including Finn Oldman, voiced by Gen Sato. It pulls together elements of fantasy and adrenaline-fueled conflict, anchored by these evolving alliances. This blend of supernatural phenomena and grounded personal loyalty distinguishes the project among contemporary action animation.
