Critical Reception

What critics are saying

Score 76 /100

President Curtis has debuted to generally favorable reviews, with critics appreciating how the Rick and Morty spin-off scales down multiversal chaos to focus on civics, folklore, and grounded absurdity. Reviewers noted that centering the narrative around Keith David's character elevates him into a fully realized protagonist rather than merely a comedic foil, bolstered by strong chemistry among his eccentric White House team.

Commentators also praised the show's fast-paced humor and sharp satire of American exceptionalism, dubbing its historical and paranormal focus a treat for genre enthusiasts. However, some critics were more tempered in their praise, arguing that the series plays it safe and can feel disappointingly similar to its parent show rather than carving out an entirely fresh identity.

“Curtis finally becomes a fully realized lead rather than an exceptionally entertaining fool.”

“Inventive and breathlessly paced”

“absurdist adult animated series that exists in the same world of stories as the incredibly popular Rick and Morty, and it mostly feels like more of the same”

“The show is hilarious, especially for history nerds”
