Overview

A reinvention of the beloved 90s cartoon, Rugrats follows a group of adventurous babies as they discover the big world around them. Led by Tommy Pickles, this toddler crew explores the world from their pint-sized and wildly imaginative perspective.

Critical Reception

What critics are saying

Score 71 /100

The 2021 reboot of Rugrats was met with generally warm, if occasionally measured, reception. Critics appreciated that the series preserved much of the original show's vintage spirit, finding comfort in the return of the original voice cast and the blend of diaper-centric humor, imaginative antics, and genuine heart that resonated with both nostalgic parents and young children.

However, reception was somewhat divided over the shift to 3D computer animation. While some found the series to be an enjoyable and sweet return to familiar territory, other reviewers contended that the visual update softened the franchise's distinctive charm and creative edge, resulting in a revival that was pleasant but not particularly ambitious.

“It feels very vintage Nickelodeon-y: a little bit of grown-up disapproved edginess, a little bit of poopy diaper jokes, and a lot of imagination and heart.”

“the series has lost its creative edge with this 3D animation update”

“the affable cast, innocent tone and generally nice story-telling and characters make it an enjoyable enough return for the franchise”
