Overview

Yakko, Wakko and Dot return for all-new big laughs and the occasional epic takedown of authority figures in serious need of an ego check. Joining the Warners are Starbox & Cindy on their latest play date while Pinky and the Brain's ideas for world domination lead them to all new adventures.

Critical Reception

What critics are saying

Score 75 /100

The 2020 Animaniacs reboot generally succeeds as a self-aware, meta-heavy revival that honors its source material while updating the animation and musical production quality. Critics largely praise the return of the Warner siblings' anarchic humor and the reliable antics of Pinky and the Brain, noting that the show effectively captures the spirit of the original 90s series.

However, critical reception is tempered by the challenges of adapting such zany comedy to a modern climate. While some reviewers appreciate the sharp social commentary and nostalgic appeal, others suggest that the show's intense political satire feels slightly strained in a politically fatigued culture, or that the sheer volume of content occasionally feels like an excess of a good thing.

“The series remains meta as all hell, with the signature bits about being knowing cartoon characters living on a movie lot.”

“A series that knows its audience and caters directly to that nostalgia for the hallowed days of Fox Kids and Kids' WB.”

“The songs are fun, funny and great to listen to, and the music is classic yet with modern instruments.”

“This version's unrelenting political satire feels less funny in a politically fatigued culture.”

Why fans love it

The 2020 animated comedy Animaniacs revives the chaotic energy of Yakko, Wakko, and Dot. Fans appreciate how the series maintains a family-friendly appeal while consistently aiming big laughs at authority figures who are in serious need of an ego check. Rob Paulsen joins the voice cast to give these classic characters their signature speed and personality, driving home the show's irreverent tone.

The show's format thrives on variety by pairing the main trio with distinct supporting segments. Pinky and the Brain return with all-new adventures centered on their unrelenting attempts at world domination, while Starbox and Cindy bring their own unique dynamic to life during their play dates. By blending satirical takedowns with lighthearted comedy, the series delivers a distinct mix of humor that keeps viewers coming back.
