Overview

Follow a younger Patrick Star living at home with his family, where he hosts his own variety show for the neighborhood from his television-turned-bedroom.

Critical Reception

What critics are saying

Score 72 /100

Critics characterize The Patrick Star Show as a relentlessly kinetic and anarchic comedy that leans heavily into surreal sight gags and rapid-fire silliness. Moving away from conventional storytelling, the spinoff embraces a variety show framework full of goofy tangents, sketch-like routines, and visits from classic SpongeBob SquarePants characters.

While family-focused reviewers point out that the show offers little educational substance or traditional narrative continuity, it is widely praised as an entertaining diversion. Overall, reception frames the series as an energetic and creative treat that will especially appeal to younger viewers and longtime franchise fans seeking pure slapstick fun.

“The furiously kinetic series is just a relentless series of jokes and sight gags, with little regard for things like plot or continuity.”

“feels like a version of SpongeBob SquarePants that's even further removed from having a classic story structure”

“celebrated for its humor and creativity, making it a fun choice for kids who enjoy animated comedies”

Why fans love it

Fans of animated comedy lean into *The Patrick Star Show* for its hilarious and deeply absurd energy. Premiering in 2021, the cartoon shifts the spotlight to a younger Patrick Star living at home with his family. From a bedroom constructed inside a television set, he hosts his own whimsical variety show for the local neighborhood, turning ordinary domestic life into an unpredictable spectacle.

Bill Fagerbakke leads the voice cast, bringing familiar energy to Patrick's surreal household antics. Rather than following a standard sitcom structure, the series functions like an open canvas for cartoon nonsense, letting its main character invent absurd segments on a whim. It gives fans a funny, imaginative look at Patrick's early years, where his living space doubles as a studio stage for his neighborhood audience.
