Queer as Folk

The 2022 reimagining of Queer as Folk garnered a generally favorable yet divided reception from critics. Enthusiastic reviews celebrated the show for broadening its scope, infusing the franchise with modern queer intersectionality, striking visuals, and a fresh punk energy. Critics highlighted its vibrant celebration of chosen family, romance, and resilience in New Orleans, alongside standout supporting turns from veteran actors like Juliette Lewis and Kim Cattrall.

However, the reboot's tonal shift received a more complicated reaction. By centering the overarching narrative around the traumatic aftermath of a nightclub shooting, the series introduced a darker and emotionally fraught premise that some reviewers found tonally unsteady. Other detractors noted that the characters occasionally felt too self-absorbed or lacked enough initial development for audiences to fully connect with them.
