Critical Reception

What critics are saying

Score 80 /100

St. Denis Medical has earned generally positive reviews from critics, who view it as a winning addition to the workplace comedy landscape. Broad praise is directed at the talented ensemble cast and the creative team behind Superstore, with reviewers noting the show's ability to blend humor with warm, relatable character dynamics among burnt-out medical staff.

Commentators also applaud the series for offering a grounded, slightly cynical perspective on modern healthcare rather than relying on glossy hero-doctor tropes. While a few critics note that the premiere episodes take time to find their footing and balance the full ensemble, most agree that the sitcom has a strong foundation and high potential for long-term success.

“Great cast and good writing in gentle workplace comedy.”

“St. Denis Medical has the highest potential for longevity among new 2024 comedies.”

“It's a cynical view of health care aptly suited to the realities of 2024 America.”

Why fans love it

Premiering in 2024, St. Denis Medical brings the mockumentary sitcom format to an underfunded medical facility in Oregon. The series leans into the absurdity of everyday hospital operations, focusing on a passionate crew of doctors and nurses who manage patient care while navigating their own complicated workplace dynamics. It swaps glossy television tropes for a hilarious, occasionally dramatic look at healthcare workers keeping a budget-strapped center afloat.

Supported by an ensemble featuring Allison Tolman, the show finds steady comedy in the friction between high-stress work and bizarre daily routines. Viewers respond to the amused, grounded tone, which balances deadpan humor with the real bond shared by the staff. It stands out as a sharp USA workplace comedy that treats its hospital setting with equal parts absurdity and heart.
