Critical Reception

What critics are saying

Score 82 /100

The Drop: A Snowfall Saga has debuted to largely positive notices, with critics praising its ability to establish its own identity while serving as a worthy continuation of the Snowfall universe. Reviewers highlight the drama's rich period atmosphere, authentic ensemble performances, and evocative portrayal of 1990s Los Angeles and the burgeoning gangsta rap scene.

While some critics point out occasional pacing issues and a slightly jumbled narrative structure in early episodes, the consensus agrees that strong writing, compelling direction, and an exceptional soundtrack allow the spin-off to find solid footing as an impressive drama in its own right.

“The show's performances, writing, production design, and direction cohesively help The Drop: A Snowfall Saga stand on its own as the next big drama series I highly recommend.”

“The series looks and feels right, the soundtrack is almost nonstop bangers, and whether you recognize all the actors or not, every piece of the ensemble conveys authenticity...”

“The Drop picks up where Snowfall left off, while replacing the drug trade for hip-hop, and it's every bit as impressive.”

“With each well-crafted sequence, this new series proves itself a singular experience, showcasing the intricacies of music, community, and survival in a time of upheaval...”
