Critical Reception

What critics are saying

Score 58 /100

Critical reception for The Kardashians characterizes the streaming reboot as an upscale, glossier continuation of the dynasty's long-running reality blueprint. Multiple reviewers observed the upgrade in cinematography and a less aggressively filtered visual presentation, presenting the family in their current iteration as savvy billionaire business moguls rather than standard reality personalities.

However, reviewers were divided on whether the format still justifies its existence. Several outlets criticized the pacing as overly controlled, plot-free, and occasionally mundane, arguing that the family's grip on their narrative deprives the show of genuine stakes. At the same time, commentators conceded that for dedicated fans, the series remains an effective dose of unrelatable escapism and an intriguing artifact of 21st-century celebrity culture.

“The family’s latest reality show is a relic of the genre they basically made but remains a rich text for modern celebrity”

“provides a much-needed dose of slightly ridiculous, completely unrelatable, and genuinely fun escapist television”

“Hulu's show often feels like a better filmed version the show they just stopped doing.”

“As a series about the contemporary lives of Kim Kardashian and family, this is about as well-made and incisive as one could expect”

Why fans love it

The Kardashians centers on the high-stakes dynamics of a family defined by its extreme proximity to the camera. The show operates in a space between the calculated management of a billion-dollar public image and the raw, farcical nature of constant attention. It presents a version of life in Los Angeles where the lines between professional obligation and private interaction remain permanently blurred.

Kim Kardashian and her sisters anchor a narrative that often teeters between the sincere and the self-conscious. While the show documents the standard milestones of family relationships, the presentation is colored by a persistent, intentional arrogance. Viewers are invited to parse which moments are grounded in genuine domestic friction and which are curated for maximum effect. The result is a study of how a family constructs its own reality while doubting the relevance of the surrounding headlines.
