Landman

Landman has received mixed reactions from critics, functioning as another high-profile entry in creator Taylor Sheridan's television empire. Much of the positive attention centers on Billy Bob Thornton's commanding lead performance as Tommy Norris, with several reviewers noting that his sharp delivery and undeniable charisma make spending time in his company an entertaining draw. The show also earns marks from some for delivering a gritty, deliberate, and unvarnished look at the modern West Texas oil industry.

However, the series faces substantial criticism for leaning heavily into familiar formulas. Multiple reviewers argue that Sheridan's creative well is running dry, labeling the narrative plodding, banal, and overstuffed with machismo. Pervasive complaints include the shallow portrayal of female characters as caricatures and the underutilization of strong supporting talent such as Jon Hamm, leaving the drama teetering between compelling realism and unearned excess.
