Lanterns

Critical reception for Lanterns has been broadly positive though visibly divided on execution. Many reviewers celebrate its departure from formulaic superhero fare, praising the mature, Earthbound tone spearheaded by creators Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. The chemistry between Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre receives consistent praise, with enthusiasts hailing the series as an ambitious, grounded mystery that elevates DC Studios' television slate.

However, the show's deliberate pivot toward prestige crime drama has drawn scrutiny. Several critics argue that its debts to influences like True Detective and Lindelof's own Watchmen are overly transparent, occasionally making the narrative feel derivative or unevenly paced. Others lament that splitting up the lead duo dampens the dynamic that makes the early episodes sing, leaving the central investigation feeling occasionally sluggish or overly dour.
