The 'Burbs

Peacock's television remake of The 'Burbs has met a mixed to moderately positive critical reception, with praise widely centered on lead star Keke Palmer. Critics repeatedly highlight her charming and energetic presence as the anchor holding the dark comedic mystery together, even when the narrative stumbles.

Favorable outlets, such as Variety and Common Sense Media, praise the series for leaning into a dark, quirky, and surprisingly heartfelt tone that gives its characters more emotional depth than the original film. Other reviewers found the show to be an enjoyable, pleasurable return to suburban paranoia that justifies its adaptation into a multi-episode format.

However, skeptics criticize the show's uneven pacing and lack of sharp suspense. Critics at outlets like The Hollywood Reporter and The Arts Fuse note that the show can feel flat and slow, describing the plot progression as lumpy or ideal for passive background viewing rather than a must-watch thriller.
