Vigil

Vigil received largely favorable reactions from critics, who praised its high-tension premise and effective blending of police procedural formulas with claustrophobic espionage intrigue. The debut season's central device—trapping Suranne Jones's detective aboard a nuclear submarine—was highlighted as an ingenious move that successfully maximized anxiety and suspense throughout its run.

While some critics felt the series relied on credulity-stretching twists or occasional procedural doldrums, most agreed it delivered gripping, old-fashioned entertainment that kept audiences guessing from week to week. Later coverage noted that the franchise managed to sustain its brilliant thriller credentials even as the narrative expanded beyond its original naval setting.
